The Asahi Shimbun Company publishes a weekly magazine for elementary school pupils Shakapon. In each issue, cartoon characters explains how society functions in five sections, taking up various issues from the history of Japan to a daily pieces of news.

Call for Essays on Your Impressions on and Visits to the Suiheisha History Museum
Theme: The Suiheisha History Museum invites the visitors to send us essays on your impressions on and visits to the Museum in accordance with the following procedures.We look forward to a lot of entries.
Quantity: | Up to 2,000 characters (in Japanese; some 1,000 words in English) |

Deadline: | 15 March every year (the entries must arrive at the Museum no later than this day) |
Entry: | The manuscript should be sent to the Museum with the indication of your address, name (a pseudonym not allowed), age, phone number, occupation or organization. |
How to send: | The manuscript should be sent by postal mail or through door-to-door delivery
service. If the essay is written by word processor or computer, a floppy
disk containing the MS-DOS text file should be enclosed. Manuscripts sent by e-mail are not accepted. The manuscripts and floppy disks are not returned to the applicant. |

Who can participate: | Those who are lower secondary school students or over Category (1) General public and higher education students Category (2) Lower and upper secondary school students The visitors should cut out the logo of the Museum on the back (gÙ̲Äàh: For the visitors) of the brochure, distributed at the Museum, and enclose it or stick it on the manuscript. |
Awards: | Category (1) General public and higher education students: Special prize (\30,000), Winning prize (\10,000) and Honorable mention (\5,000) Category (2) Lower and upper secondary school students: Special prize (book tokens for \30,000), Winning prize (book tokens for \10,000) and Honorable mention (book tokens for \5,000) There may be cases where no essays are selected for any of the categories/prizes above. Excellent essays are published on the bulletin of the Suiheisha History Museum Lucifer. |
Public Use of the Special Exhibition Room
Invitation for UseThe Suiheisha History Museum makes the Special Exhibition Room open to public use, inviting those who are interested in to display exhibitions on human rights issues as well as works of art, including drawings and products of calligraphy.
The fees for using the Special Exhibition Room are charged on the basis of the number of letters of invitation, which should be sent out by the user (the sponsor of the exhibition). A visitor with the letter of invitation need not pay the admission fees. The number of the letters of invitation is to be counted at the reception of the Museum when the exhibition is closed and \400 per letter of invitation will be charged to the sponsor. In addition, the fees for using the equipment will also be charged (\500/day for a movable glass case; \300/day for a long table; and \100/day for a pipe chair).
