Emperor Jimmu Shrine

The deity of the shrine is Kamuyamato Iwarehiko-no-Mikoto, that is Emperor Jimmu (legendary first Emperor of Japan).
Although the ridge tag says, gShosengu (planned installation of a deity of a shrine) in September 1833h, it is likely to be put up when the shrine was rebuilt. The Emperor Jimmu Shrine is very old, being here from ancient times. A shrine with the same name had existed from ancient times near Houra Village as well.
It is reported that Emperor Jimmu was enshrined to this shrine, considering that Hohoma no Oka, which Emperor Jimmu allegedly climbed, is Hohoma Oka (hill) that stands behind the main building of the shrine. Hohoma Oka was formerly called Kunimi Yama (Looking Over the Country Mountain) as well. Subsidiary shrines within the premises are the Homusubi-no-Mikoto Shrine, the Itsukushima Shrine, the Honguwara Shrine and the Jinguji Temple (Ohjou-in and Jizo-do).
