The Tsubame Kai
The Tsubame Kai (sparrowsf society) was an autonomous association formed by the young people in Kashihara on 15 May 1920. The name reflects their wish to fly away anywhere freely like sparrows; it was named as such also because the society was formed in the season when sparrows come flying. The society was involved in loans with lower interest rates, consumer union activities and group trips, producing flags, stamp books, hand towels and woven hats of Japanese cypress. Although the society dissolved on 25 September 1922, after the creation of the Zenkoku Suiheisha, the stamp books indicate that the members continued to travel to different places after that.Taken in front of the main building of the Saikoji temple. The flag with the societyfs sign can be seen in the center.
For A Good Day
The pamphlet published by the Tsubame Kai as the prospectus of the creation of the Zenkoku Suiheisha. Having been printed by Doho Sha with the arrangement of the chief priest of the Seiganji temple, MIURA Sangendo, who was also a reporter of the newspaper Chugai Nippo, the copies were sent to different areas of the country on the basis of the readers list of Meiji no Hikari (light of the Meiji era). It called for the creation of the Zenkoku Suiheisha in the spring of 1922, quoting such authors as Romain Rolland, William Morris, Maxim Gorki and SANO Manabu.Laborers, farmers and Buraku people, whose livelihood basis were weak and were vulnerable to the economic waves of good times and bad times, began to form their own associations to improve their lives. In this context, what kind of associations and activities had the young people in Kashihara been involved until the creation of the Zenkoku Suiheisha?
