Having been a main player in the autonomous movement for the improvement of Buraku districts in Kashihara as well as other areas in Nara Prefecture, SAKAMOTO Kiyotoshi was elected to the Minamikatsuragi County Assembly in October 1911 with major support of Buraku people in the country. Subsequently he worked actively as a Wakigami Village Assembly member as well.Taken in December 1942 in front of his house on the opportunity of seeing off his grandson, Kiyonobu, who was going to the front. The back straightened posture suggests his honest and steady personality.
Drying places were made from the crosspieces spread over the rice fields, on which blue was placed with bamboo blinds laid beneath. The building with a high chimney was the Sakamoto Glue Factory, behind which Mount Honma stood.
In Kashihara (former Iwasaki Village), which had gone through the movement for the consolidation to the main village (Kashihara Village) and the struggle for the integration of schools, Buraku people themselves had already paved the way for the autonomous movement for the improvement of Buraku districts before the creation of the Zenkoku Suiheisha. Leaders in Kashihara, including SAKAMOTO Kiyotoshi, TATSUMI Kazuma, KIYOHARA Doryu and KIMURA Kichisuke, launched the movement that had spread out in Minamikatsuragi County, Nara Prefecture and finally all over the country.
